The Trip

Towards the end of 2016, we inherited Arc en Ciel the family catamaran on which Guillaume grew up. The idea is to bring the boat back from French Polynesia to Europe. What a journey! The road is rather long but we have no intention on racing. We want to take our time and enjoy the different countries crossed on the way.

Our journey began in February 2017 in French Polynesia, Raiatea. Our program was at first to make our mark on Arc en Ciel and prepare her for this long journey. In Raiatea, there was all that we needed to do that. Two shipyards, DIY stores, mechanics, sailmakers … Great! The Leeward Islands and their lagoons are beautiful playgrounds that we know very well. We lived here for eight years on Rebelle, a small mono hull of 9 meters.

What a change to have a catamaran. Not only do we have more space, but we can also go in much shallower waters with a draft of only 50 cm. We can now go almost everywhere and easily beach the boat.

After french polynesia we plan to head towards the Cook Islands and then to Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Australia, Indonesia, Papua, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Sri Lanka , India, the Maldives.

Once arrived in the Maldives we can take different options. Go through the Gulf of Aden and risk the pirates, then cross the Suez Canal to reach the Mediterranean Sea. Or the second option, is to make the “Big tour” through South Africa, Brazil, the Caribbean and the Azores.

At this stage, it’s a bit premature to make a decision. Both options have their pros and cons. The program can also change on the way.

It will depend on the people we meet, the state of our savings and how we feel at the time.

The path is long but ever so beautiful. There are such nice things and cultures to meet on the way. You will find below some articles and videos that show where we’ve been so far. We hope you enjoy the journey!
